Dreams and Dreaming

Dreams and dreaming is a big subject but one that's easy to get into if you're interested, and once there it will be clear why every poet writes about them, every songwriter sings about them and why a big dream is behind the plot in every play or movie. You'll discover the way of dreams and quickly learn to use them as the poets do.

Dreamland is the middle layer between the big life cycles of the higher world and the more familiar, smaller cycles of our day-to-day world. And it bubbles with all the questions that run through our minds just before we go to sleep and the dreams it creates to answer them. It's also bulging with connections where ideas circulate with others that are open to our thinking.

The role of Dreamland is to scatter advice in front of us as we make our way through the day. Mostly this is by noting what's on our mind and providing answers in dreams, but if we've deliberately insulated ourselves from our dreams then they may apply more drastic action to regain our attention. Our dreams may become weird simply to prompt us to ask 'What's going on?' and often that's sufficient to bring us back into awareness. However, if we've stubbornly set our minds on a course of action, in effect turning our backs on our dreams, then our progress may be dogged by ill health, and collections of characters from our ancestry will be paraded in our dreams until we deal with the issues that the characters represent.

Dreams have been with us since we swung out of the African jungle. We were probably forced out by some calamity, along with our chimpanzee cousins, but its dreams that suggested we stayed there and learn to stand upright. We could use our brains to survive in the unknown world and there were all those new ideas to help. Meanwhile our cousins returned to their old world and their old habits and while we've evolved to eat food units on the moon, they are still eating bananas.
